“Even though in Europe the number of unemployed people is high, vacancies are also aplenty. Calculations show that in 2015 the sector of informatics will have one million vacancies. This means that we have failed to foresee the labour market’s future demand,” said Pierre Mairesse, Director-General of Directorate A, Directorate General for Education and Culture of the European Commission, at a conference at the Lithuanian Seimas. According to Mr Mairesse, it is imperative to fix this mistake and focus on education and vocational training in order to tackle unemployment.
